THE TRAJECTORY OF THE MOVEMENT FOR THE EMANCIPATION OF THE PROLETARIAT IN THE PROCESS OF REDEMOCRATIZATION IN VOLTA REDONDA (1979-1986)

Resumo

Esse artigo analisa a trajetória do MEP - Movimento pela Emancipação do Proletariado - em Volta Redonda no processo de redemocratização no final dos anos setenta do século XX. A partir de análise de fontes bibliográficas de diversos autores e de documentos disponíveis no acervo “Projeto Brasil Nunca Mais”, e entrevistas com militantes do MEP e de movimentos sociais em Volta Redonda, este artigo analisou a atuação desse movimento que se opôs a ditadura, na luta pelos direitos dos trabalhadores e pelos direitos humanos. O MEP desenvolveu um amplo trabalho de base, organizando os trabalhadores, dialogando com outros grupos políticos, fortalecendo os movimentos sociais locais, constituindo-se ainda como um dos agentes responsáveis pela fundação do Partido dos Trabalhadores e pela formação de novas lideranças políticas na cidade de Volta Redonda.

Abstract

This article analyzes the trajectory of the MEP - Movement for the Emancipation of the Proletariat - in Volta Redonda in the process of redemocratization in the late seventies of the twentieth century. Based on an analysis of bibliographic sources from several authors and documents available in the Projeto Brasil Não Mais collection, and interviews with MEP and social movements militants in Volta Redonda, this article analyzed the performance of this movement that opposed the dictatorship, in the struggle for workers' rights and human rights. The MEP developed a broad base work, organizing workers, dialoguing with other political groups, strengthening local social movements, constituting itself as one of the agents responsible for the founding of the Workers' Party and for the formation of new political leaders in the city of Round Round.
