THE FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN THE BOOK “O ALEGRE CANTO DA PERDIZ”, BY PAULINA CHIZIANE

Resumo

O presente artigo analisa a figuração feminina no romance “O Alegre Canto da Perdiz”, de Paulina Chiziane, assim como suas diferentes representações no enredo. Para isso, primeiramente analisamos o contexto histórico colonialista no qual a história está inserida e a fase pós-colonialista da literatura africana à qual o livro pertence. Já a segunda etapa consiste em relacionar aspectos destes períodos às personagens que dão vida à história. No romance percebemos, por meio da protagonista, a simbologia do sofrimento da mulher negra durante a colonização e as marcas deixadas por esse período, mesmo após a independência. Maria das Dores, Delfina e Serafina são representações do pensamento vigente na sociedade colonial, embora cada uma enfrente de modo diverso os desafios que se apresentam. Em meio a histórias lendárias, a narrativa poética revela o papel da mulher e sua luta contínua.

Abstract

This article analyzes the female figuration in the novel O Alegre Canto da Perdiz, by Paulina Chiziane, as well as their different representations in the plot. For this, we first analyzed the colonialist historical context in which the story is inserted and the post-colonial phase of African literature to which the book belongs. The second stage consists of relating aspects of these periods to the characters that give life to the story. In the novel, we perceive, through the protagonist, the symbology of the suffering of black women during colonization and the marks left by this period, even after independence. Maria das Dores, Delfina and Serafina are representations of current thinking in colonial society, although each one of them faces the challenges that lie ahead in different ways. Amidst legendary stories, the poetic narrative reveals the role of women and their ongoing struggle.
