THE WORKERS' STRIKE IN VOLTA REDONDA

Resumo

Esse artigo analisa a greve dos peões de 1979, movimento reivindicatório organizado pelos trabalhadores das empresas prestadoras de serviços da CSN, e discute sua relevância no contexto de lutas pela redemocratização em Volta Redonda. Adotou-se como metodologia de trabalho a pesquisa empírica com fontes primárias, que incluem a análise de fontes iconográficas, jornalísticas, e também fontes orais, obtidas por meio de entrevistas. O objetivo foi identificar as particularidades dessa greve, partindo dos ‘peões’, suas condições sociais e as causas que levaram a organização desse movimento grevista realizado no interior da CSN em plena ditadura, além de analisar de que maneira esse movimento mobilizou a sociedade local.

Abstract

This article analyzes the 1979 pedestrian strike, a protest movement organized by workers from CSN service providers, and discusses its relevance in the context of struggles for redemocratization in Volta Redonda. As a working methodology, we adopted empirical research with primary sources, which include the analysis of iconographic and journalistic sources, as well as oral sources, obtained through interviews. Our objective is to identify the particularities of this strike, starting from the 'peons', their social conditions and the causes that led to the organization of this strike movement carried out within the CSN in the middle of the dictatorship, in addition to analyzing how this movement mobilized the local society.
