Abstract

This article analyzes the use of 3D printing as a technological alternative for the production of components intended for discontinued vehicles, considering technical, economic, and environmental aspects. The objective was to evaluate the feasibility of additive manufacturing in the replacement of internal automotive parts through a case study involving the development of an air-conditioning diffuser for a discontinued vehicle model. The methodology consisted of applied research with a qualitative approach and an experimental procedure, including three-dimensional modeling, polypropylene prototyping, and final fabrication using different polymeric filaments, followed by functional testing under real operating conditions. The results showed that PLA exhibited adequate functional performance, dimensional stability, and significantly lower cost when compared to ASA, fully meeting the requirements of the analyzed application. It is concluded that additive manufacturing represents an efficient strategy to extend the service life of discontinued vehicles, reduce maintenance costs, and promote practices aligned with circular economy principles within the automotive sector.
