THE INFLUENCE OF READING HERE ON THE SPELLING: A Study with 2nd Grade High School Students

Resumen

Este estudo busca refletir sobre a influência da leitura no processo de aquisição da ortografia e em que medida é possível determinar a correlação entre esses processos. Além da análise de conceitos sobre ortografia e processos mentais envolvidos na leitura, como o exame de uma investigação realizada por Zanella (2007), o presente artigo traz uma pesquisa quantitativa realizada com alunos do ensino médio. A análise aqui empreendida objetiva mensurar em informações numéricas a correlação do desempenho em ortografia por jovens que se declaram leitores ativos ou não com a finalidade de apresentar dados que corroborem com a hipótese inicial.

Abstract

This study seeks to reflect on the influence of reading on the spelling acquisition process and how it is possible to determinate the correlation between these processes. In addition to analyzing concepts about spelling and mental processes involved in reading, as well as examining an investigation carried out by Zanella (2007), this article presents a quantitative survey carried out with high school students. The analysis undertaken here aims to measure, in numerical information, the correlation of spelling performance by young people who declare themselves to be active readers or not, in order to present data that corroborate the initial hypothesis.
